Thousands of Companies Still Hiring Students During COVID-19 for Jobs, Internships, Co-ops and more
Are you wondering what companies are still hiring intern, recent grad, entry-level, and executive talent direct from college campuses during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic?
We know schools are just wrapping up finals week, seniors are graduating, and many current students are still seeking internships. So we dove into the data and trends across the GradLeaders network to find out what’s happening today? The reality is there is a lot of uncertainty for Summer 2020 and even this Fall. Some companies are canceling internships, rescinding offers, and laying off workers. But there are thousands of employers still hiring with active postings today.
As of May 5th, there were still 9,272 companies hiring for 199,509 total opportunities. And 91% of those jobs were just posted in the past 2 weeks. In fact, we actually found a slight increase in job postings year-over-year for February, March and April of 2020 vs 2019.
The majority of roles, functions and industries of those opportunities are as expected – essential services and roles at companies that need more help today than ever before. The jobs fell into these top 10 categories:
- Transportation & Logistics: 52,561 jobs
- Sales & Retail: 27,345
- Manufacturing & Warehouse: 22,251
- Restaurant & Hospitality: 14,707
- Management: 7,862
- Healthcare: 6,150
- Installation, Maintenance & Repair: 5,908
- Customer Service: 4,300
- Protective Services: 2,907
- Service & Engineering: 1,678
These companies are not only seeking current students and recent grads for full-time roles, but many have internships, co-ops, projects and other experiential learning opportunities available as well. Of the 199,509 total opportunities:
- 172,462 were full-time jobs
- 1,835 were internships
- 1,112 were part-time roles
- 517 were co-ops
- And the remaining 23,583 were project-based, consulting, or volunteer work
Companies are not only recruiting undergraduate talent (Bachelor’s and Associate’s Degrees) but also hiring from graduate schools. 4,096 of the jobs were specifically for Master’s or MBA talent.
We also filtered the data to find jobs in specific locations around the globe. Within the U.S., the states with the most openings are:
- 15,081 jobs in California
- 13,702 in Massachusetts
- 9,958 in New York
- 9,886 in Michigan
- 8,054 in Pennsylvania
- 8,011 in Ohio
But 7,574 of the opportunities were outside the United States as well. Not including the 418 open postings for remote/virtual or work from home jobs.
