Important Information About New TLS 1.2 Security Upgrade

GradLeaders is always evaluating ways to maintain and raise the high level of trust our school and employer partners have come to expect from us over the past 30+ years. We’re constantly evaluating new security techniques and technologies, and apply only the best and proven standards to our already best-in-class security infrastructure. To that end, GradLeaders will soon require the use of TLS 1.2 compatible clients to access our environments.

What is TLS?

Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol establishes a secure communication channel to promote confidentiality and integrity of information that passes between two systems. In simpler terms, TLS makes it possible for you to use your credit card to shop online or to make secure transfers via your bank account online.

To comply with PCI Data Security standards for safeguarding payment data and reducing the risk of information breaches, it’s strongly encouraged that software providers upgrade to a more secure encryption protocol. For organizations to protect themselves against vulnerabilities, they should consider migrating to at least a TLS 1.1, but preferably TLS 1.2. Eventually, all payment processing services will refuse TLS 1.0 connections, so we need to get a jumpstart on this upgrade this Fall.

How Will This Impact My Use of GradLeaders’ Software?

  1. GradLeaders is already compliant with TLS 1.0. We’re aware of all the TSL 1.2 stipulations and are working with our development team to release updates to all platforms this Fall. In the interim, it’s important to update any old internet browsers you may currently be using. Use an online toolor this table to check if your browser is TLS 1.2 is compatible or needs to be upgraded. Other anticipated issues are mostly expected to be related to APIs or integrations with other third-party software providers that are not yet on TLS 1.2. If you are not utilizing APIs or integrations, or if your other software is already on TLS 1.2, you should have no problems. Please mark your calendars for the TLS 1.2 upgrade on November 5, 2018.

Note: If you are GradLeaders Career Center, CSO System or The Outcomes Survey partner, your end users (students and employers) will not receive any email notifications about this upgrade.
