What is an internship management system?

An internship management system (IMS) is software that centralizes every stage of running an internship, co-op, or rotational program, communication, task tracking, feedback, surveys, and reporting all in one platform instead of spreadsheets, email threads, and disconnected tools. It’s built for the program management side of internships, from the day an intern accepts an offer through program completion.

I need a robust platform for my Workforce Development Program, can GradLeaders help?

Yes we can! Leverage our excellent reporting capabilities along with our automation to let the program handle the paperwork so you can better focus on your results! Find out more here

How is an internship management system different from an applicant tracking system (ATS)?

An ATS is built to get candidates hired with postings, applications, interviews, offers. An internship management system picks up after that: onboarding, day-to-day task management, mentor check-ins, engagement surveys, and outcome reporting for interns who are already on board. Many companies run both — an ATS to hire interns, and an IMS to run the program once they start.

Who typically uses this kind of software?

Corporate internship program managers, HR and talent development teams, university relations/early talent recruiting teams, and organizations running structured co-op or rotational programs. It’s used by both the program administrators and the interns and mentors participating day-to-day.

Can it handle both paid and unpaid internships, or co-ops and rotational programs?

Yes, in a properly configurable system. Different program types typically need different approval workflows, forms, and reporting. The platform should let you set those rules per program rather than forcing every intern type through one template.
